The Happification of Reading:
Celebrating a Week of Happiness – March 17-23
7 days – 7 new happiness habits
What better way to start Happiness Week than by wishing family…friends…co-workers…
strangers – a Happy Monday! Super-size that greeting with a big smile. The act of smiling – whether you are feeling happy or not - triggers the release of endorphins, and a warm fuzzy feeling around your heart. When we feel good, we are more creative, productive and prosperous. Just for today, try smiling once an hour….on the hour.
Notice how smiling more often makes you feel.
We all have read about, heard about, and been preached to about….the benefits of gratitude. Many claim that gratitude is the great secret to happiness. We know we feel good when we express gratitude. Once an hour….on the hour, lets declare our gratitude for something. Thank your heart for continuing to beat….thank your child for her smile….thank the cashier for his thoughtfulness….thank the sun for coming up. The happification of Reading depends on the people of Reading developing new happiness habits.
Grati-Tuesday….Lets do it!
Take time today to enliven your well-being. Sit still….close your eyes….breathe more deeply….go for a walk….stretch….jog….smile….laugh….eat an apple….think about what is going well….read something inspiring…. affirm something inspiring…..pamper yourself. A well-being mantra we like is: All is well, all is well, all is very, very well. Try saying this affirmation, or another affirmation you are fond of – once an hour….on the hour.
Enliven well-being by creating this new happiness habit.
Thrive On Thursday
Today is the second annual United Nations International Day of Happiness. The United Nations has proclaimed March 20th as the International Day of Happiness….
recognizing that the pursuit of happiness is at the core of human endeavor.
Thrive is a word used in measuring happiness. Thrive means to flourish, prosper, succeed, bloom, blossom. Lets honor this day by noticing how we are thriving, and engaging in uplifting conversation with others about thriving. How are we thriving today?
How have we thrived in the past? How will we thrive in the future?
Imagine it….feel it….talk about it….create it.
Pay It Forward Friday
In referring to acts of kindness, Benjamin Franklin said: “I do not pretend to give such a deed; I only lend it to you”, implying that you are to pay the kindness forward to someone else in need. Today….callon your inner kindness…. call on kindness that has been given to you by others…. call on kindness that has been given to you by Source. And pay it forward - at least once - on Pay It Forward Friday. Notice how it changes you. Imagine how it could change the community….how it could change the world.
Service to others is also service to ourselves. Service calls up the best part of ourselves…. and gives it to others. Find a way to be of service to others today. Lend a hand to a friend, a neighbor, a stranger. Go solo, or gather with a group. The Happiness Project of Reading is sponsoring a community service project to clean up and beautify several reading parks. We will meet up at the TEA Factory (580 Willow St.) at 10am, and work until 1pm. We invite you to join us back at the TEA for refreshments, a gift of appreciation, and some Fun Presentations. As you give….so shall you receive.
We don’t stop playing because we grow old…..we grow old because we stop playing.
Today, let your inner child out to play. Make sidewalk chalk drawings in front of your home….blow bubbles….tickle someone….chase someone….play a game with someone….tell funny stories….laugh….sing….dance. Joy is the purpose of life. When we are fulfilling our purpose, we are happy. Let your inner child have a Funday Sunday!
